It is highly recommended that beginning students attend up to a maximum of two classes per week. However, as the student advances in skill level, they may attend additional classes at their own discretion.
Yes, we do offer private training. Training privately is great for anyone who has a busy schedule, or for those who want a more personalized experience. Yes! However, our Instructors expect and demand the full attention from your children. Parents, guests or siblings are expected to avoid any interaction with the student while viewing their class. The Academy expects and demands a disciplined class.
Absolutely not!! At Portland Academy of Self-Defense LLC, our martial arts curriculum for youth is taught as a tool for personal growth and development. Martial Arts will instill a strong sense of self-esteem, confidence, respect and ethical behavior in your child. Often, kids who display anti-social behavior will change and develop a positive self-image, positive character, and the necessary self-control to make the right choices. So no, martial arts won’t make your child violent!
No. Often, people think they need to get in shape prior to starting. At Portland Academy of Self-Defense LLC, our training starts at a reasonable level of intensity and gradually increases over time, working up towards a higher level. The real benefit is it provides the student ample time to get in shape.
No! We expect you to work within your abilities, and communicate to the instructor what you feel you are capable of doing, as well as what feel you’re not capable of doing. All our staff is here to assist you, and we will accommodate you as needed.
The Black Belt at our Academy is recognized and respected as a symbol of hard work, dedication, discipline, and a high level of technical competency and knowledge. The decision to achieve a black belt is a serious one, and should not be taken lightly. The actual time it takes to achieve a Black Belt will depend solely on the individual student’s effort.
